The Society has a number of affinity relationships with local charities to raise money through savings accounts which give savers an attractive rate of interest, whilst every year the Society donates a percentage of the average daily account balances.
The Melton Building Society has donated over £18,207.03 to the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance Service (DRLAA).
The Society has supported the DLRAA for over 10 years and raised in excess of £50,000 – last year the affinity savings account raised £18,207.03. “This is an amazing amount of money which will save numerous lives and help prevent lifelong injury,” said Emma Cunnington, Community Fund Raising Officer, DRLAA. “Our trauma doctors, critical care paramedics and pilots couldn’t carry out their lifesaving work without the support of organisations like the Melton. We don’t receive any government funding – we are literally lifted into the air by the generosity of the community.”
“The Air Ambulance is particularly close to my heart,” said Martin Reason, Chief Executive, the Melton. “Four years ago I had to be air lifted to hospital following a horse riding accident and I am delighted our affinity savings account continues to help the DLRAA.
“Our affinity partners all provide extremely valuable services to our local community and we are proud to be able to make these donations. Affinity accounts enable our members to help their chosen charity as the more money they save, the more the Melton donates to the charity each year,” concluded Martin Reason.
The Society offers an affinity savings account to support the Phoenix Children’s Foundation charity. The Phoenix Children’s Foundation enriches and enhances the lives of youngsters and their families living with illness, disability or lack of opportunity. The local charity is entirely reliant on the generosity of organisations, businesses and individuals to fund their crucial work, together with the dedication of their volunteers and trustees who run the charity on a daily basis. The Phoenix Children’s Foundation owns a small menagerie of animals, ranging from donkeys and goats, to Shetland ponies and reindeer, all of whom help provide young people with opportunities to grow emotionally and learn through Animal Assisted Activity (AAA).

The Melton has donated over £6,434 to LOROS Hospice. The Society raised the money through an affinity savings account which gives savers an attractive rate of interest, whilst every year the Society donates a percentage of the average daily account balances to LOROS.
LOROS Hospice is a local charity that provides free high quality care and support to terminally ill adult patients, their families and carers. “Each year LOROS needs to raise a minimum of £4.5m to continue providing our services free of charge to over 2,500 local patients,” says Diane Morris, Fundraising Manager of LOROS. “This can only be made possible with help from local businesses and the public. We are thrilled to receive this generous donation from the Melton Building Society and would like to thank them and their customers for their marvellous support.”
The Society offers two affinity savings accounts to support the Home-Start charity. Home-Start believes that children need a happy and secure childhood and that parents and carers play the key role in giving their children a good start in life, helping them to achieve their potential. This charity provides a unique service; recruiting and training volunteers who themselves have parenting experience, to work with families in their own homes, building supportive relationships and responding directly to the family’s individual needs.
A network of Home-Start schemes throughout the UK offer support within local areas, to help children to get the best start in life. Each scheme is independently funded, managed locally and has the support of the national organisation Home-Start UK. Home-Start Horizons has a proven, lasting, positive impact on the development of children and the health and welfare of the family.
