Community Support from The Melton Building Society

Over £30,000 Donated to Local Charities

The Melton Building Society has donated a total of over £30,000 to four local charities – the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance Service (DLRAA); Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland hospice, LOROS; charity for adults with learning disabilities, Hft and The Phoenix Children’s Foundation. The money was raised in 2018 through affinity savings accounts which give savers an attractive rate of interest, whilst every year the Society donates a percentage of the average daily account balances to the relevant charity.

The Society has supported the DLRAA for over 10 years and raised in excess of £50,000 – last year the affinity savings account raised £18,207.03. “This is an amazing amount of money which will save numerous lives and help prevent lifelong injury,” said Emma Cunnington, Community Fund Raising Officer, DRLAA. “Our trauma doctors, critical care paramedics and pilots couldn’t carry out their lifesaving work without the support of organisations like the Melton. We don’t receive any government funding – we are literally lifted into the air by the generosity of the community.”

“The Air Ambulance is particularly close to my heart,” said Martin Reason, Chief Executive, the Melton. “Four years ago I had to be air lifted to hospital following a horse riding accident and I am delighted our affinity savings account continues to help the DLRAA.

“Our affinity partners all provide extremely valuable services to our local community and we are proud to be able to make these donations. Affinity accounts enable our members to help their chosen charity as the more money they save, the more the Melton donates to the charity each year,” concluded Martin Reason.
